[Environment Daily News Reporter Kim Na-young] = Mint Radiology (Directors Bae Jae-ik and Kim Jae-wook) will hold the 'Dialysis Arteriovenous Fistula Revascularization Symposium' on July 25 at 3:7 PM. The event is designed to provide a platform for sharing the latest information on percutaneous revascularization of hemodialysis arteriovenous fistulas by inviting relevant experts, including nephrologists and nurses from specialized hospitals and clinics equipped with artificial kidney units.

Directors Bae Jae-ik and Kim Jae-wook, interventional radiologists at Mint Radiology, will stand side-by-side as speakers to deliver lectures on 'Percutaneous Revascularization of Dialysis Arteriovenous Fistulas: Latest Insights and Challenges' and 'Management of Hemodialysis Catheters,' respectively. In particular, Director Bae Jae-ik, who served as a professor in the Department of Radiology at Ajou University Hospital for 10 years, is regarded as an authority on dialysis arteriovenous fistula revascularization, further heightening expectations for this symposium.

Dialysis arteriovenous fistula recanalization is a procedure that involves inserting a fine medical tube (catheter) into a blood vessel to open blockages or widen narrowed areas at the site of the lesion. Depending on the symptoms of complications, procedures such as stent insertion or balloon angioplasty (attaching a balloon to the catheter to widen the vessel) may be performed concurrently. As a type of minimally invasive procedure (interventional radiology) utilizing advanced imaging equipment, it is characterized by simple treatment and a short recovery period, unlike conventional surgical procedures.

Director Bae explained, “Percutaneous recanalization is the most effective method for treating complications such as occlusion and stenosis of dialysis arteriovenous fistulas,” adding, “It allows for the treatment of multiple dysfunctions in a single procedure while preserving the existing blood vessels, and enables immediate dialysis after treatment, making it suitable for patients requiring emergency care.” Director Kim Jae-wook stated, “95% of dialysis patients suffering from arteriovenous fistula complications can be simply treated with this procedure.”

Mint Radiology, which opened in 2007 as Korea's first specialized interventional radiology hospital, has recently completed internal expansion work and significantly broadened its scope of services, and will hold a reopening ceremony on the 10th of next month. The hospital focuses on uterine fibroid embolization, varicocele embolization, hemodialysis arteriovenous fistula revascularization, diabetic foot vascular treatment, and lower extremity edema vascular treatment, while also operating internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and anti-aging clinics.
