Director Bae Jae-ik's Conference Presentation: "Vascular Revascularization Effective for Buerger's Disease"
[Bundang Buerger's Disease Treatment]
Buerger's disease, improved blood flow with revascularization!
held at COEX
The 69th Annual Meeting of the Korean Society of Radiology, KCR 2013!
Last time, Director Kim Jae-wook's
<Varicose Vein Embolization: Interventional Treatment as a Primary Treatment>
I posted about the lecture,
Today, Director Bae Jae- ik's
I will introduce the presentation content.

Director Bae's research topic is
This is <Vascular Revascularization in Patients with Buerger's Disease>.
In other words,
As a treatment for patients suffering from Buerger's disease
That 'vascular revascularization' is effective
It was a presentation of the research.
So, before diving into the main topic...
First question!
Q. What kind of disease is 'Buerger's disease'?

In the small and medium-sized arteries of the hands and feet
As inflammation occurs, the arteries narrow or
Blood clots form, causing impaired blood circulation
It is 'thromboangiitis obliterans'.
If left untreated for a long time, not only pain
Can lead to necrosis or even amputation
It is a scary disease.

Although the clear cause has not been identified
Because it occurs frequently in smokers
Even in anti-smoking advertisements
You can see an image of Buerger's disease.

Second question,
Q. What is 'vascular recanalization'?
As a type of interventional radiology procedure,
pierce a small hole in the skin about the size of a hypodermic needle.
Inserting tiny medical devices (balloon catheters, stents, etc.) along the blood vessels
The lesion area where stenosis, occlusion, etc. have been caused
It is a procedure to artificially widen the area.
The reason Buerger's disease is scary
It is because the treatment method is not clear .
That is why revascularization is effective
Director Bae Jae-ik's presentation
It was bound to attract the attention of many people.
According to the research results,
During the period from September 2009 to May 2013
Among the 14 patients diagnosed with Buerger's disease
10 people with regenerating blood vessels
It is said that he became the subject of an attempted recanalization procedure.
Of 7 out of 10 patients who underwent revascularization
Successfully target the occlusion site
It is said that they were able to reopen.
And among all 7 people who successfully underwent recanalization in this way
We were able to confirm that the wound area was improving.

as a result,
In about 70% of patients with Buerger's disease
Vascular revascularization helped improve blood flow and symptoms.
That's great news, isn't it?
Just like a blocked blood vessel being cleared up
Even diseases without a definitive cure can be treated through endless research and attempts
Director Bae Jae-ik, who is paving a new path!
The results of this study
To many Buerger's disease patients and their families
I hope this brings you hope.
